Early Literacy Institute
Resources
Montgomery County Public Schools has undertaken a large budget initiative to increase the reading achievement of students by limiting cass size to 15 students during reading instruction in Grades 1-2. The Reading Initiative goal is that every student will be reading independently by the end of Grade 2. As part of the MCPS Reading Initiative teachers of grades one and two attend the Early Literacy Institute. This intensive training provides teachers with information about early literacy, effective teaching strategies and time to utilize resources from a Professional Development Center.
