Standard

Maryland State Curriculum Content Standard 7:  Students will demonstrate the ability to apply prevention and treatment knowledge, skills, and strategies to reduce susceptibility and manage disease.

Performance Indicators

A. Disease Classification 
 7.3.A.1.  Identify diseases as communicable.  

7.3.A.1.a.

Define communicable diseases.  

7.3.A.1.b.

Identify examples of communicable disease such as, common cold, strep throat, flu and others.   

7.3.A.1.c.

Explain the importance of prevention or early detection and treatment of disease.  
7.3.A.2.  Identify diseases as non-communicable.  

7.3.A.2.a.

Define non-communicable disease.  

7.3.A.2.b

Identify exams testing for the presence non-communicable disease such as allergies, asthma, and others.  
7.3.A.3.  Compare parasitic diseases.  

7.3.A.3.a.

Identify parasites such as lice and ticks.

7.3.A.3.b.

Identify conditions/diseases caused by parasites.  

7.3.A.3.c.

Illustrate strategies to prevent parasitic diseases.
