Honors Ensembles

Elementary School

The elementary honors choruses were organized in 1982 to provide a special opportunity for elementary students with strong musical interest and outstanding choral singing ability.  Two choruses were formed in order to make this experience possible for all qualified students.  Students are auditioned by the elementary general music teacher at their school and participate in either the North County or South County Chorus, depending upon the location of their school.

Middle School

Students in the Middle School Honors Chorus are chosen on the basis of countywide auditions held in November of each year.  They are active members of their school choral program, and many go on to become members of the high school honors chorus ensemble as well as all-state honors groups.

Montgomery County Youth Chorus

The Montgomery County Youth Chorus (MCYC) is the highest honors chorus ensemble available to students in Montgomery County Public Schools.  For more than 30 years, MCYC has provided gifted and talented singers in Grades 9–12 the opportunity to perform major works from the choral literature.  The group has performed with the National Symphony, the Millbrook Symphony, the Montgomery County Youth Orchestra, and Masterworks Chorus and Orchestra.  Countywide auditions for this ensemble are held each spring.
