Major Languages for MCPS Schools
The languages listed for each school are those for whom ten or more speakers could be identified based on data available on October 3, 2008. This data is from the weekly report after the official enrollment census for the 2009 school year. The available data is known to be incomplete, but the most accurate currently available. If local school administrators have more complete data, they should contact the Language Assistance Services Unit (LASU). For specific requests for languages not listed, contact the LASU.
For some languages, you may need specific fonts to be able to read and format documents when you receive them. You can follow this link to find a list of fonts for major languages recommended by the Language Assistance Services Unit. For other languages contact the LASU directly.
Translation Coordinators for MCPS Worksites
The translation coordinators listed for each school or office have been trained to use the Translation Request System to submit documents to the Language Assistance Services Unit for translation. Each worksite name is a link to the MCPS directory page for the worksite to facilitate access to contact information for the translation coordinators. As administrators identify new persons to serve their units as translation coordinators, training for translation coordinators is made available through MCPS by registering at Professional Development Online (PDO). Login is required. Search courses for "TRS".
