In 2007, the Montgomery County Board of Education received the Magna Award from the National Association of School Boards for the budget initiative that created the Translation Unit to improve communication to the various language communities in MCPS, providing greater access to information and increased parent participation.

The mission of the Translation Unit is to support student achievement through parent involvement by providing timely translations of important documents about school services and student performance to parents and community members who communicate in languages other than English.
The MCPS Translation Unit at Rocking Horse Road Center provides translations of documents authored by Montgomery County Public Schools into various languages to facilitate communication with the parents of students and with other community groups to improve services to students, supporting student achievement.
Oral interpretation services are coordinated by the ESOL Parent Center.
In addition to full-time translators, the Translation Unit employs the services of contractors in a variety of languages for proofing, occasional translation jobs, and for our lesser used languages as need arises. If you are interested in applying for contract work, contact Dr. William J. Prather, the translation technology specialist.
