DESCRIPTION: Flag Ponds Nature Park offers three miles of gentle hiking trails, observation platforms overlooking two ponds, a wetlands boardwalk, a beach and fishing pier on the Chesapeake Bay, and a visitor's center with wildlife exhibits.

Flag Ponds is a part of Maryland's history. From the early 1900s until 1955 the area was a sheltered harbor on the Chesapeake Bay, with a major "pound net" fishery supplying croaker, trout, and herring to the Baltimore markets. Today, "Buoy Hotel Number Two," the lone remaining structure of the Flag Pounds fishing complex, houses a fascinating exhibit on the bay's old-time fishing industry.

Directions - From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Route 4 south into Calvert County. Take Route 24 to Prince Frederick and continue 10 miles south. Look for the sign and turn left into the Nature Park.
