With Students Away...It's a Professional Day
Two groups of MCPS staff held meetings during the Oct. 16 professional day.

Special education paraeducators gathered for an orientation at Richard Montgomery High School. About 114 paraeducators new to MCPS attended breakout sessions to learn about strategies that support student learning and the roles and responsibilities of a paraeducator in the classroom. They also heard from Superintendent Jerry D. Weast and Board of Education President Shirley Brandman.

About 800 educators attended the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics annual conference at Northwest High School.
Speakers included Skip Fennell, past president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and member of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel, and Lucy West, an author and education consultant who formerly served as a deputy superintendent in New York City Public Schools. Attendees also participated in breakout sessions and browsed through exhibitor materials.
