OVERVIEW
MCPS has undertaken efforts designed to prepare and encourage more students to stretch themselves academically and take the most challenging courses. Various systemwide and individual school initiatives have opened the enrollment and encouraged more diverse student participation in honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Initiatives include creating a positive school climate that communicates high expectations for all students, informing and educating parents about rigorous academic programs, motivating students to participate in challenging coursework, monitoring student progress, employing non-traditional methods of identification, and removing barriers to the recruitment and selection of students for enrollment in honors and AP courses.
