5/5/2009 -- Wootton's government, politics, and law teacher and Tennis Coach, Nia Cresham, will be flying with the Blue Angels, the Navy's elite demonstration squad, on May 21. Cresham's flight, which she was awarded by the Department of the Navy for being a "key influencer of young Americans in our community," will take off from Patuxent Air Base at 10:30 a.m. It will be part of a rehearsal for the following day's Naval Academy graduation show. 12/5/2008 --Three High Schools Ranked Among Nation’s Top 100

Three Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) high schools have been awarded gold medal status—placing them among the top 100 high schools in the nation—in a new U.S. News & World Report ranking of America’s best high schools. Walt Whitman High School was ranked 44th in the nation, Thomas S. Wootton High School was ranked 54th, and Winston Churchill High School was ranked 57th. They were the only three schools in Maryland to receive gold medal rankings. More . . .

5/24/2007--Congratulations to Mr. Don Ayotte of Wootton's Science Department. He won the NIST Chapter of Sigma Xi Outstanding High School Science Teacher award. This award recognizes his outstanding work in motivating high school students to learn and appreciate science, in particular Chemistry. He will be presented with a certificate and monetary award May 24, 2007, a t a dinner reception.

5/23/2007--Congratulations to Monica Mattey for being selected as this year's Outstanding CTE Teacher in the Information Technologies Cluster. She will recieve her award at the Secondary School and Beyond ~ Inspiring All Students conference at Northwest High School on June 21, 2007. The conference will run all day, but the awards will be presented at 9:15 am.

4/26/2007--The Wootton Bay Club was founded this year in response to the global warming crisis and has become a part of the Montgomery County Green Schools Focus Program. The group entererd a county wide Climate Challenge for which they designed a proposal to reduce Carbon Emissions by switching the MCPS buses to Compressed Natural Gas and will be awarded $1000 for their efforts.

Just in the past few months, they have saved over $2000 in energy bills for our school by having the tube lights switched to carbon flourescents. They have accumulated a lot of support from Wootton kids and hope to make many more changes around the school in the years to come!

9/18/2006 -- Congratulations! The executive committee of the Technology Education Association of Maryland (TEAM) has informed us that KEVIN O'NEILL is the recipient of the 2006 Outstanding New High School Technology Education Teacher Award.
The 2006 TEAM Awards of Excellence ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 19 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm at the La Fountain Blue located on 1234 Crain Highway (Route 2) in Glen Burnie.
Kevin's accomplishments will also be recognized at the 2007 International Technology Education Association Conference, which is being held in San Antonio, Texas on March 15-17, 2007.
Congratulations on winning this prestigious award!

Iselin, NJ, April 3, 2006 - The Siemens Foundation today announced the winners of the 2005-06 Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement. This year for the first time, the program is expanding with the goal of recognizing students, teachers and schools in all 50 states. The program celebrates high school students who excel in Advanced Placement® (AP®) Program science and math courses, as well as the teachers and schools who are leading the nation in participation and performance in AP science and math courses.

4/4/2006--MCPS Sweeps Siemens Foundation Awards for Advanced Placement Achievements

Two Montgomery Blair High School students, a Blair High School teacher, and Thomas S. Wootton High School have won state awards from the Siemens Foundation for their success with Advanced Placement (AP) programs.
Advanced Placement is a signature program of the College Board, which selects up to two students from every state as winners of Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement. The awards also recognize one AP teacher in math, science and technology from each state and one school from each state for exemplary teaching and AP participation.
Montgomery Blair High School students won Siemens Foundation scholarships of $2,000 each. The foundation offers awards for the top male and female student in each state who have earned the greatest number of grades of 5 on AP biology, calculus BC, chemistry, computer science AB, environmental science, physics C: electricity and magnetism, physics C: mechanics, and statistics.
A Blair magnet teacher won the Siemens state teacher award and $1,000. Teachers with a minimum of five years of teaching experience in math, science and technology courses are selected for their exemplary teaching and enthusiastic dedication to students and to the AP program.
Thomas S. Wootton High School was the Maryland school selected in recognition of its commitment to students and for being a leader in AP participation and performance. Wootton received a $1,000 grant from the Siemens Foundation to be used to support math and science education.

Michele Levy and Andy Rampp almost seem willing to concede an off-year for Wootton wrestling. With little varsity experience and a 53-19 opening-night loss to Magruder, the early signs left that impression on the Patriots’ captains.

Her freshman résumé included a top-five finish at the Maryland cross-country championships, an indoor state title in the 1,600 meters and All-Met honors for the outdoor track season -- which included a time of 4 minutes 57 seconds in the 1,600, second best in the area.
