Pick an hispanic country from the list below. Pretend that you were an exchange student there last year. Share your “scrapbook” with us, via Powerpoint, or other means.
Prior to beginning the project, your topic must be
approved by the instructor.

* Find out the name
of the currency in that country - bring some in, or find a picture
of
it.
Find out what the exchange rate is.
* Prepare a map, and
show us the city in which you “lived.” Be able to pronounce the
names
in Spanish.
* Show some of the
famous and/or vacation places on the map that you visited with
"family."
Why are they famous?
Supply pictures.
* Describe some of
the festivals/holidays there. Show us festival costumes.
* Find a recipe from
the country in which you lived:
1. Make a copy
of the recipe .
2. Prepare
it for the class – enough so that everyone gets a taste.
3. Be able
to pronounce the name of the recipe. Let us know if it is eaten on
a
regular basis, or only
on special days.
4. Be sure
to supply your own plates, napkins, cups and plastic ware.

* What are some of the customs/traditions, and/or taboos of that country.
| Create an “ad” that is selling common merchandise: pens, pencils, notebooks, etc., writing the price in the currency of the country. | What is their relationship with neighboring countries? (friendly/unfriendly) |
| What is the climate like? | Do they receive financial support from the US? If so, is it targeted toward a particular need? |
| What are its imports/exports? | What other cultures live there, and what percentage of the population do they represent? |
| What plants and animals are indigenous to that country/climate? | What do teens and others do in their free time? What are the dating customs – couples, groups, etc.? Typical age at marriage? |
| What do their homes look like? | Tell us about a famous person from that country. |
| What does their clothing look like? | Tell us about the educational system there - is it structured like ours? (elementary, middle, etc.) Public or private schools? What about university education? |
| What type of government do they have? | Tell us why you chose to study in that country. |
| What is happening in their national news? |
All computers in the library can access the Media Center's Electronic Card Catalog. It is located on the Global Access Menu under Media Center Programs. The Catalog identifies all the holdings (books, etc.) of the WJHS Media Center. It is also possible to search for materials on the MCPS Library Catalog Online. Be sure to set the limits of your search to Walter Johnson HS only.
