Oakland Terrace Website Purpose Statement
The Oakland Terrace Elementary School website is meant as a resource for students, teachers, parents and the community. Throughout the site, you will find student work meant to illustrate the Montgomery County curriculum and the Oakland Terrace instructional program. We highlight student work across the curriculum to give parents a better understanding of what their students are learning from unit to unit and year to year at Oakland Terrace. The math pages, language arts & writing pages and art galleries provide real-world forums for students to showcase their work and to communicate their knowledge and creativity. Students are motivated to produce quality work for which there will be an audience on the web.
You will find resources meant to enhance instruction. The same resources available to teachers - such as the math weblinks - are often available to parents and to students so that activities completed at school can be explored at home. We create activities such as the Making Words Contest to motivate and excite students to learn.
We strive to create a site that responds to the needs of all of our stakeholders in a format accessible to parents and teachers, but foremost to elementary students. We do not use drop-down menus and text-only menus that are hard for younger students to navigate. We make our site visually stimulating to engage our students and to respond to diverse learning styles. If a Kindergartner who is not yet reading or a student with limited English can navigate the website successfully, then the website is a success.
We do not want our website simply to share information that is available elsewhere; we want it to reflect the boundless energy and curiosity of our learners and community.
We hope you enjoy your visit!
