Picture of a thermometer showing 34 degress and of a boy wearing cold weather clothing. Students in Ms. Seibert's and Ms. Taylor's classes use the Kidspiration Program to explore temperature and weather. First, students must read the thermometer and type in the temperature they see in degrees Fahrenheit. Students must be taught that many thermometers count by twos. Students can think of the ten that comes before the temperature showing (30). Then, they can count by two for each mark on the thermometer:
30, 32, 34.
After determining the temperature, the students then decide the appropriate clothing for each picture based on the weather. Picture of a thermometer showing 76 degrees Fahrenheit and of a girl wearing a swimming suit.

In first grade science, students study weather. "Children observe the weather and collect and record data about basic weather features including wind, temperature, precipitation, and cloud cover. Children record weather observations, construct graphics, and record information on a weather calendar. Weather was developed by the National Science Resources Center with support from the National Academy of Sciences and the Smithsonian Institution."
