Gr. K Unit 2 / Gr. 1 Unit 2~ Regrouping with Tens and Ones
What Does This Look Like In:
K 1 2 3 4 5 A B

Students use the Kidspiration program to model three different ways to represent the number 31. As students move into first grade, they are learning that our system of numbers is based on ten. They learn to show two digit numbers using tens and ones. It is also important for students to realize that the same value, 31, can be represented with using different combinations of tens and ones. 3 ways to make 31 with base ten blocks: 3 tens and 1 one, 31 ones, and 2 tens and 11 ones.
This activity prepares students for regrouping numbers, a foundational skill that allows students to be successful in math computation.

This activity is available in "handout"
for Kindergarten and 1st grade at Oakland Terrace.
