Oakland Terrace Recycling
New for Fall 2007: Every Day is NO WASTE DAY!
Read the Flyer Explaining the Program. Click Here.

In the past, Ms. Apo has run the student recycling program at Oakland Terrace. Now, Ms. Lyons has taken over the task. Fourth grade students collect recycled paper products from every class room
and every office several times a week.

During the 2006-07 School Year, Oakland Terrace initiated No Waste Wednesdays. Each week, a grade was in charge of helping students recycle materials during lunch times. Materials were rinsed and so that trays, aluminum foil and milk cartons could be recycled. Students learned how to separate their recycling. On a typical day, over 700 students at Oakland Terrace generate 17 bags of trash just during lunch. On NO WASTE WEDNESDAYS, the number of bags of trash fell to just 3!

Look below to see how students chipped in to recycle and to help Oakland Terrace become a Green School.

Students sort their trash so that most can be recycled. Student assistants help younger students learn the system.
