Good afternoon. This is Mrs. Ryan, principal intern at Oakland Terrace Elementary School with your message for the week of October 17th through October 21st. This message will be read in English and then in Spanish.

Third grade students will attend a field trip to Brookside Gardens on Tuesday, October 18, Wednesday, October 19 and Thursday, October 20.

On Wednesday, October 19th, Oakland Terrace Elementary School will host the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education meeting at the main campus. Senior business leaders will collaborate with top education leaders, including our superintendent, Dr. Starr, and MCPS executive staff members here at Oakland Terrace.

On Thursday, October 20, fourth grade students will attend a field trip to St. Mary's City.

There will be no school for students on Friday, October 21st.

On Monday, October 3rd, Blanton Studios will be at the Oakland Terrace main campus and satellite campus to photograph each individual student. Be sure to be picture ready!
On Tuesday, October 4th, there will be a PTA meeting at the Oakland Terrace main campus beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The George B. Thomas Learning Academy offers tutoring and mentoring in reading/language arts, mathematics, and test-taking skills. Registration for the George B. Thomas Learning Academy is underway. There are 12 Learning Academy locations, including Einstein, Blair and Kennedy High Schools. You may select any of the locations for your child to attend. Saturday school sessions are held September 24th through April 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Please register in person at the Learning Academy Center that your child will attend. Please see the flyer in last week's newsletter for more information

Good evening. This is Mrs. Ryan, principal intern of Oakland Terrace Elementary School with a reminder about tomorrow's PTA meeting. This message will be read in English and then in Spanish.

This is a reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday October 4th, is a special parent meeting hosted by the PTA. Pizza and pupusas will be provided at 6:30 p.m. while supplies last. Free childcare will be provided by Kids After Hours. Parent Ambassadors will run groups in Spanish, French, and Amharic. Come to meet other parents, get questions answered, and hear a presentation about the new curriculum. The grade level with the most parents in attendance will win an ice cream party. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Este es un recordatorio de que mañana, martes 04 de octubre, Habra una reunión especial de padres patrocinado por el PTA. Pizza y pupusas estaran proporcionados a las 6:30 hasta agotar existencias. Habra cuidado de niños gratis donado por "Kids After Hours". Embajadores de los padres se dirijaran grupos en español, francés, inglés y amárico. Ven a conocer a otros padres, hacer consultas, y escuchar una presentación sobre el nuevo plan de estudios. El grado con la mayoría de los padres ganara una fiesta de helados. Esperamos verles alli.

Good afternoon. This is Mrs. Ryan, principal intern at Oakland Terrace Elementary School with your message for the week of October 10th through October 14th. This message will be read in English and then in Spanish.
On Monday, October 10th, there will be an Open House for parents. The Open House will run from 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the satellite campus and from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the main campus.
Please look for a flyer in your child's backpack regarding a PTA fundraiser at Ledo Pizza. Bring the flyer to Ledo's between 3:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Monday October 10th and Wednesday, October 12th and Ledo's will donate 10% of your entire bill to Oakland Terrace Elementary School and the PTA.

On Wednesday, October 12th, 5th grade students will attend a performance at Strathmore Hall.

On Friday, October 14th, students in kindergarten through 5th grade will participate in a cultural arts assembly at the main campus.

Good afternoon. This is Mrs. Ryan, principal intern at Oakland Terrace Elementary School with your message for the week of September 26th through September 30th. This message will be read in English and then in Spanish.

Oakland Terrace will host a series of Spanish Language Study Circles for Latino parents this fall. An information meeting will be held on Monday, September 26, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the all purpose room.

Wednesday, September 28th is an early release day for students. Students at the satellite campus will be dismissed at 12:50 p.m. Students at the main campus will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. Please be sure your child knows how he or she is to go home.

There will be no school for students on Thursday, September 29th in observance of Rosh Hashanah.

The PTA will host a movie night on Friday, September 30th at 7:00 pm in the Sligo Middle School cafeteria. The feature movie is Rio. A donation of $1 per Oakland Terrace student is suggested. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Pizza, drinks, and candy will be available for sale.

Oakland Terrace esta formando un nuevo grupo de padres latinos con el personal del la escuela para apoyar a los estudiantes latinos en Oakland Terrace Elementary School.será el Una primera reunión informativa será el Lunes, 26 de septiembre de las 6:30 hasta las 8:30 en la sala de uso multiple en el Campus Principal.

Miércoles, 28 de septiembre es un día de despedida temprano para los estudiantes. Los estudiantes del campus satélite saldrán a las 12:50 pm y los estudiantes en el campus principal seran despidiós a las 1:00 pm. Por favor, asegúrese de que su hijo sepa como él o ella es volvera a casa.
No habrá clases para los estudiantes el jueves, 29 de septiembre en la observancia de Rosh Hashaná.

Good afternoon. This is Mrs. Ryan, principal intern of Oakland Terrace Elementary School with your message for the week of September 19th through September 23rd. This message will be read in English and then in Spanish.

On Thursday, September 22nd, we will hold an ESOL Family Reading Night from 4:45 – 6:30 pm at the Oakland Terrace main campus. ESOL staff will explain the ESOL program and ESOL students will have an opportunity to check-out books from the media center. Light snacks will be provided.

As we enter enter the fall season, please be sure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather each day.

Good afternoon. This is Mrs. Ryan, principal intern of Oakland Terrace Elementary School with your message for the week of September 12th through September 16th. This message will be read in English and then in Spanish.

On Wednesday, September 14th, we will hold Back-to-School Night for parents of students in kindergarten, first and second grade. Back-to-School Night for kindergarten will be held at the satellite location at Sligo Middle School from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Back-to-School Night for grades 1 and 2 will be held at the Oakland Terrace main campus from 7:30 – 8:30 pm.

On Thursday, September 15th, we will hold Back-to-School Night for parents of students in grades 3, 4, 5 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm at the Oakland Terrace main campus. We will also hold the Instrumental Music Parent Orientation meeting immediately following Back- to-School Night at 8:00 p.m. This meeting will be held in the all-purpose room and is designed only for those parents whose child is in 4th grade or those new to 5th grade who plan to take instrumental music for the first time.

Parents please remember to return several important documents, including the emergency contact information, the application for free and reduced meal prices and the parent reunification form.

El miércoles, 14 de septiembre, tendremos la reunion de" regreso a la escuela" (Back to School Night) por la noche, para los padres de los estudiantes de kindergarten, primero y segundo grado. Back-to-School Night para kindergarten sera en el campus satellite de Sligo Middle School de las 6:15 hasta las 7:15 pm Back-to-School Night para los grados 1 y 2 se llevará a cabo en el campus principal de Oakland Terrace de 7 : 30 hasta 8:30 pm.

El jueves, 15 de septiembre, tendremos "Back to School Night" para los padres de los estudiantes en los grados 3, 4 y 5, de 7:00 hasta 8:00 pm en el campus principal de Oakland Terrace. También tendremos una orientación para padres que quieren que sus hijos participan en Música Instrumental. Esta reunion se inicia inmediatamente después de Back-to-School Night a las 8:00 pm y se llevará a cabo en la sala de uso multiple. Este programa es diseñado sólo para aquellos padres cuyo hijo está en cuarto grado o de los nuevos a 5 º grado que planean tomar la música instrumental por primera vez.
