About Oakland Terrace

Oakland Terrace is one of the largest elementary schools in Montgomery County. Enrollment at Oakland Terrace will top 900 students before the new McKenney Hills facility is opened in the fall of 2012. Located just outside the Capital Beltway and just a few miles from Washington, D.C., Oakland Terrace serves a diverse population of students from all over the United States, Central America, the Caribbean, South America, Africa, Asia and Europe.

Oakland Terrace has undergone one of the most dramatic demographic shifts in Montgomery County in the past decade while continuing to build on its academic success. Oakland Terrace has been recognized for its improved test scores as the achievement gap shrinks among demographic groups. Oakland Terrace is a Professional Development School, enjoying a partnership with Towson University. Student interns from Towson are an integral part of the Oakland Terrace community.

In August 2012, a new K-5 school (DCC ES #29) will open on the site of the McKenney Hills facility to relieve the overcrowding at Oakland Terrace and Woodlin Elementary Schools. Oakland Terrace Kindergarten classes will be held at Sligo Middle School as a self-contained program for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years as an interim solution to the overcrowding.
