Chesapeake Connections: Mr. Beaver's Scrapbook

Ewell

We are pulling into Ewell and you see the Inn where people come and visit. What lucky people! I don't know if you can see that red car back there or not, but people DO drive cars on Ewell, even though there are only a few. On Tylerton the streets are too small and the town itself is small too, so they drive around in golf carts.

Hello boys and girls! We have just arrived in Ewell. There is Big Bear (boat behind me) is used for oysters. She goes out and buys the oysters right off people's boats when they catch the and brings them back. This makes it much easier. She is taking a nap right now but he will be up and running in the winter.

Hello! What's that smell? It is the Smith Island Water Facilities Rehabilitation. This is where all the sewage water on the Island goes to get treated and be ready to put out in the Bay. They used to not clean the water at all, but just dump it out in the Bay, but when the water condition started getting bad they built this great facility. Things have been better ever since.
This is the road that connects Rhodes Point to Ewell. It is about a mile long and there are some strange stories about this road. You are going to have to hear them yourselves, but let's just say that they have to do with a woman that is a little light-headed. Actually she has no head at all. It makes the fur on my neck stand up just thinking about it.
Here we are at the Ewell school. All the kids in Tylerton go to this school. They take a beautiful big boat over here. There used to be a school in Tylerton, but there are not enough kids now on Tylerton to go to the school.
We are at the church in Ewell. This is a Methodist church and all the citizens of Ewell belong to it. Each of the towns on Smith Island has a Methodist Church.
