The media skills program is taught in conjunction with
classroom research projects.
At each grade level
specific research skills are matched with grade level curricula.
Some lessons and units are taught whole-group in the
media center, some small-group
in the media
center, some in the classroom, some in the computer labs, etc.
The media schedule is flexible, in order to
accommodate the largest number of
people in the
most efficient manner.
Checkout
Generally, students are not limited in the number of items checked out for a two-week period. Videotapes and selected CD-ROMs may be checked out overnight if students present a request signed by a parent. Students have regular access to the media center for book exchange through English classes, and may visit the media center before school during lunch, and after school. Staff may check out materials on an unlimited basis.
Overdues
Students whose accounts show overdue materials may not
check out anything until the
account is
reconciled by returning the overdue materials or paying for the lost
item(s). A full refund will be given if an item is
returned after it has been paid for.
After-school Use of the Media
Center
Students who wish to
stay after school to use the media center and take the activity
bus home make prior arrangements with the media staff. Each
student must have a
note from home signed by a
parent or guardian. The note must also be signed by the
classroom teacher who has assigned the project on which the
student will be working.
The student must be
prepared to work independently while in the media center. Any
student engaging in unacceptable behavior in the media center will
be returned to the
supervision of the teacher who
assigned the project.
